Orange County, California (February 25, 2020) – Former Senate Republican Caucus Chairman Tom Harman (R-Huntington Beach) has endorsed Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) for the 74th Assembly District seat. She is challenging freshman Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) for the seat.
“Diane Dixon is a proven conservative whose record shows that she is a principled leader who can get things done. Her leadership embodies the Republican values of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and strong public safety,” said Senator Harman, who previously served in the State Assembly and on the Huntington Beach City Council. “Having represented the majority of the current 74th District when I was in the Senate, I know Diane Dixon is the best candidate to defeat Democrat Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris.”
“I thank Senator Harman for his endorsement because he has been a longtime conservative leader in our district,” said Dixon. “I appreciate his endorsement because he knows the value of having both real-world business experience and local government service in advancing conservative ideals in the State Assembly.”
Diane Dixon spent 40 years in the private sector as a business executive before being elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 2014, twice serving as Mayor. She has served as Chair of the Water Quality and Tidelands Committee and member of the Finance Committee for nearly five years, including four years as Chair. During her tenure at City Hall, she has actively engaged city residents, holding over two dozen town hall meetings, working closely with local business owners and residents to solve community problems, and initiating numerous neighborhood and community improvement programs.
An active member on several philanthropic community-based boards of directors for nearly four decades, Dixon has been married for 44 years to career prosecutor Pat Dixon, with whom she has a daughter (a former prosecutor), son-in-law, and three grandchildren.
The 74th Assembly District consists of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, southern Huntington Beach, and most of Irvine.
