Assemblymen Obernolte and Bigelow Endorse Diane Dixon for 74th Assembly District

Republican Caucus Chair and Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Endorse Dixon

Orange County, California (February 20, 2020) – Assembly Republican Caucus Chair Jay Obenolte (R-Big Bear Lake) and Assembly Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Frank Bigelow (R-O’Neals) have officially endorsed Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) for the 74th Assembly District.  Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron (R-Escondido) had previously announced her endorsement of Dixon.  Dixon is challenging freshman Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) for the seat.

“Diane Dixon’s long career in the private sector and her time in local government have shown her to be an aggressive advocate for taxpayers and fiscal responsibility,” said Bigelow, who is the ranking Republican on the Assembly Appropriations Committee. “I proudly endorse Diane Dixon for the 74th Assembly District because she is the best candidate to win this seat for Republicans and defeat Democrat Cottie Petrie-Norris.  I look forward to serving alongside her in the Assembly.”

“I am honored to be endorsed by Assemblymen Obernolte and Bigelow, as they have been strong fighters for conservative policies and values,” said Dixon. “I thank them for their endorsements because they know the importance of having both business and local government experience in order to advance conservative policies in the Legislature.”

Diane Dixon spent 40 years in the private sector as a business executive before being elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 2014, twice serving as Mayor.  She has served as Chair of the Water Quality and Tidelands Committee and member of the Finance Committee for nearly five years, including four years as Chair.  During her tenure at City Hall, she has actively engaged city residents, holding over two dozen town hall meetings, working closely with local business owners and residents to solve community problems, and initiating numerous neighborhood and community improvement programs.

An active member on several philanthropic community-based boards of directors for nearly four decades, Mayor Dixon has been married for 44 years to career prosecutor Pat Dixon, with whom she has a daughter (a former prosecutor), son-in-law, and three grandchildren.

The 74th Assembly District consists of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, southern Huntington Beach, and most of Irvine.
