Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron Endorses Diane Dixon for 74th Assembly District

Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron Endorses Diane Dixon for 74th Assembly District

Joins Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove in Endorsing Dixon

Orange County, California (October 1, 2019) – Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron has endorsed Diane Dixon (R Newport Beach) for the 74th Assembly District.  Mayor Dixon is now endorsed by both of California’s Republican legislative leaders in her bid to unseat freshman Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach).

“Diane Dixon built a distinguished career in the private sector as a Fortune 300 company executive.  As a Mayor and City Councilwoman, Diane has fought to improve public safety, protect taxpayer dollars, and engage city residents,” said Waldron, who became Assembly Republican Leader after the November 2018 election. “I enthusiastically endorse Diane Dixon as the best Republican to take the 74th Assembly District seat back from Cottie Petrie-Norris.”

“Diane’s business career and her record at City Hall make her the ideal candidate to win the 74th Assembly District seat.  Additionally, she has raised more money than any Assembly challenger in California in either party, which will allow her to get her message out and counter the Democrat incumbent’s message,” Waldron continued. “Diane’s candidacy is our best chance to take back the 74th District, and she is one of our best candidates to take back a Democrat-held seat in the Assembly.  Her honesty, tenacity, conservative principles, and solutions-oriented leadership will serve the people well. I look forward to welcoming Diane as a member of our caucus in 2020.”

“Looking at accurate polling data, fundraising numbers, electoral record, and proven conservative record, it is clear that Diane Dixon is the Republican best able to defeat Cottie Petrie-Norris,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove, who announced her endorsement of Dixon in August. “We will utilize the resources necessary to ensure that Diane Dixon is not only the Republican nominee for this seat, but also the next Assemblywoman for the 74th District.”

“It is an immense honor to be endorsed by both Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron and Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove,” said Dixon. “I look forward to joining them in Sacramento to fight for the taxpayers of California and to help elect more Republicans.”

Diane Dixon spent 40 years in the private sector as a business executive before being elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 2014.  She is serving her second term as Mayor, and has served as Chair of the Water Quality and Tidelands Committee and member of the Finance Committee for nearly five years, including four years as Chair.  During her tenure at City Hall, she has actively engaged city residents, holding over 23 town hall meetings, working closely with local business owners and residents to solve community problems, and initiating numerous neighborhood and community improvement programs.

An active member on several philanthropic community-based boards of directors for nearly four decades, Mayor Dixon has been married for 44 years to career prosecutor Pat Dixon, with whom she has a daughter, a former prosecutor, and three grandchildren.

The 74th Assembly District consists of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, southern Huntington Beach, and most of Irvine.
