Orange County, California (May 16, 2019) – Mayor Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) announced today that former Sheriff Sandra Hutchens (R-Orange County), former District Attorney Steve Cooley (R-Los Angeles County), and victims’ rights advocate Collene Campbell (R), a former Mayor of San Juan Capistrano, have endorsed her bid for the 74th Assembly District seat. Dixon is challenging freshman Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach).
“Diane Dixon has been one of Orange County’s leading advocates for public safety. She has taken a proactive approach to keeping Orange County families safe,” said Hutchens, who retired as Orange County Sheriff four months ago. “She has worked closely with citizens and law enforcement to develop effective methods to prevent crime and catch criminals. I proudly endorse Diane Dixon as the best candidate for the 74th Assembly District.”
“In the State Assembly, Diane Dixon will stand up against the soft-on-crime policies coming out of Sacramento. She will work closely with law enforcement, and she will fight to protect California families from dangerous criminals,” said Cooley, who won 60% of the vote in Orange County when he ran for Attorney General. “California needs Diane Dixon in the State Assembly, and she is the best person to represent the 74th Assembly District.”
“AB 109, Prop 47, and Prop 57 have made it easier to put criminals back on the street, which endangers the safety of California families. Sacramento insists on pushing legislation like AB 392 to make it harder for police officers to do their jobs protecting law-abiding citizens,” said Dixon. “I am honored to be endorsed for State Assembly by Sheriff Hutchens and District Attorney Cooley because they know I have a proven track record fighting to protect our communities.”
Diane Dixon spent 40 years in the private sector as a business executive before being elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 2014. She is serving her second term as Mayor, and has served as Chair of the Water Quality and Tidelands Committee and as Chair and member of the Finance Committee for four years. During her tenure at City Hall, she has actively engaged city residents, holding 22 town hall meetings, working closely with local business owners and residents to solve community problems, and initiating numerous neighborhood and community improvement programs.
An active member on several philanthropic community-based boards of directors for nearly four decades, Mayor Dixon has been married for 44 years to career prosecutor Pat Dixon, with whom she has a daughter, a former prosecutor, and three grandchildren.
The 74th Assembly District consists of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, southern Huntington Beach, and most of Irvine.
